GP Fellowship Programme
The Black Country & West Birmingham GP Fellowship is a structured, supportive programme for GPs to introduce them to working in general practice, which benefits both the GP and their employing practice. Fellows will be employed by a single practice, although they may work across a Primary Care Network (PCN). The programme will help practices to recruit and retain GPs by offering attractive roles that lead to long term employment within primary care.
Practices/PCNs can submit an application to host a Fellowship either on behalf of a newly-recruited GP or with the intention of recruiting into a vacant post.
GP Fellows will have access to the following:
-
A detailed induction, introducing them to their practice team, Primary Care Network and wider system;
-
Support from their practice to undertake a leadership role, quality improvement project or develop a special interest;
-
Funded time for CPD (24 sessions over 12 months);
-
Funded time for supervision (18 sessions over 12 months);
-
Attendance at monthly First 5 Network events to meet peers and gain CPD;
-
Peer mentoring sessions for career advice or problem solving.
The total amount of funding available per Fellow is approx. £15,000. Interested practices/PCNs must demonstrate their commitment to providing a supportive environment for the development of their newly recruited GP.
